To be a man It's quite a task To be a man Be a man The city cajole It's all lit up beneath An apartment rooftop It's an uphill drop To be a man You have to jump Fall into the arms Of the Earth As it rushes to meet you Headfirst What could be worse Than To be a man? To be a man Could use a hand To be a man It's quite a task To be a man Be a man The city cajole It's all lit up beneath An apartment rooftop It's an uphill drop To be a man You have to jump Fall into the arms Of the Earth As it rushes to meet you Headfirst What could be worse Than To be a man? Every now and then I find you walking alone as the snow sinks down, I find you you were around for me, you found me you were around when I drowned, you found me we won't go away, will we? every now and then I lose you out among the metal and the screen, I lose you you were away for a while, you lost me you were away while I whittled, you lost me

Won’t leave you behind Won’t leave you behind I’m not mine, not mine
 Wont leave you behind
 Won’t see you not mine
Wont put you on the line
Wont waste your time
 Wont pick your mind
 Wont walk on a dime
 Wont talk over your lines
Wont leave you behind
Wont leave you behind
Im not mine, not mine
Wont you be mine so I
Wont have to leave you behind
Wont have to leave you behind

Greenville’s very own Zachary Lansdowne He was brought down in Noble County On the morning of September 3rd, 1925 Down came the Daughter of the Stars USS Shenandoah Ohio became a thermal updraft 1,000-plus feet per minute The Empress of the Clouds split apart The control car lost control in the merciless sky USS Shenandoah All for publicity Midwestern politicians sacrificed the crew Zachary tried to postpone it But Eberle and Moffat preferred profit USS Shenandoah 40 cities and towns were not enough To satisfy our political interests Lansdowne was among the 14 killed Politics is the line-squall that did it USS Shenandoah

All these Christmas lights Twinkle dimly in the snowy white And the mist of our breath are all that’s left Of the sadness that these lights embody Christmas lights Shine so bright All these Christmas lights Let me feel you’re here tonight And the cold snowflakes are all that’s left Of the girl that these lights embody Christmas lights Shine so bright about

Re-listening to all of the songs that make up this album, I'd hazard to guess that it's about growing up and all the losses and gains that are part of aging. "Guess" because these songs span such a long stretch of time (2014 - 2022) and also because it wasn't until very recently that the prospect of throwing them all together into an album presented itself. However, some common themes do miraculously emerge and my best guess in as few words as possible is that this is "growing up". I suppose that can mean many things but as far as I can tell it comes closer to it than anything else.

Integrating excerpts of dialogue from old black and white films or monologue-advertisements into these songs significantly guided the meaning in new and surprising ways. Experimenting around with old audio from a near, yet distant, era and seeing how it affected the music was exciting in the moment and very satisfying once the piece of audio that was exactly what was needed found its place.

The artwork was taken during the raging fires and heat waves of 2021 in British Columbia, and it was taken in the early afternoon but because of how thick the smoke was it looked like dusk. For some unknown reason, to me, this photo feels like it exudes the essence of these songs...

"...a raw, visceral and captivating album of lo-fi avant-folk songs, crooning piano ballads and abstract sound collages about the complexities, frustrations, difficulties and weirdness of growing up in this world. There's a strong sense of apathy, confusion and strange nostalgia that permeates through this long winding collection of recordings which I find both haunting and endearing." ~Fog Songs (fogsongs.blogspot.com/2023/07/bandcamp-recommendations-july-23.html)

"A weird folk fondue of shattered dreams and brittle recollections. An unbridled and bizarre sound world full of harrowing and dissonant ditties. Cathartic and stinging." ~ Simon (www.instagram.com/theclutchandtheflywheel/)
